I’ll Give You The Sun

I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson

Where did I get it? The local library

ill-give-you-the-sunSummary: Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways . . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah’s story to tell. The later years are Jude’s. What the twins don’t realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world.

My Thoughts:

” People die, but your relationship with them doesn’t. It continues and is ever-changing. “

I have never read any other books by this author but when I heard so many people raving about this book  a little while ago, I knew I had to pick it up.

Noah and Jude are twins who although were originally extremely close, have slowly drifted apart over the years as they deal with individual and shared tragedies in their lives. There were so many complex layers to this plot and I was kept guessing at the reason behind the twins fallout until the author revealed it.

The illustrations on pages added a really nice touch to the novel and I couldn’t wait for those special pages to come along again. Jude used to be a daredevil, however when we are introduced to her at the start of the novel, she has lost her spark. The novel is told from alternating points of views as well as at different stages of the twins lives and that helps us to see not only each individual feelings but how time has changed them both.

My favourite person was probably Noah but I was immersed in each and everyone of the characters stories especially Guillermo who was suffering so much heartache but still managed to irrevocably help Noah and Jude to patch themselves back up.
