Summary: If you broke Elena’s heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she’s expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does. What she’s not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels.

This book was not long, in fact it was one of the shortest novellas I have read in a long time. However, this book was good.

Elena was such a likeable protagonist and so were pretty much all of the other characters (my favourite was Troy). There was not a lot of room for character development but I felt like I was able to get the general gist of each persons trait.

The premise of the story was interesting and although I am no fan of Star Wars, I think it would be a good experience to go and camp out for the release of a new movie or book.

At the start, Elena came across as a little shy but during the course of the book she learns to become comfortable with new people rather than hiding in the crowd. Kindred Spirits was not a romance, like so many of Rainbow Rowells’ other books, but that was fine with me and I enjoyed watching as Elena and Gabe became friends and bonded over Star Wars.
